Hey Reader, How has your photography been shaping up this season? November turned my world upside down—but in the best way possible! My husband and I welcomed a little girl into our family. She arrived a few weeks early, so last month's photography plans had to pause as we focused on family. But good news! I’ve caught up on enough sleep this past week to finish curating this year’s list of Best Gifts for Nature Photographers. And guess what? We're still doing the giveaway, though we've...

Hey Reader, I hope you are enjoying the start of autumn! I haven't been able to photograph much the past two months so I'm looking forward to grabbing my camera with cooler temperatures, later sunrises, and the kaleidoscope of colors that are coming our way. Most of my photography time focused on finishing a big commercial project in the healthcare industry. It was exciting and daunting because it tested my knowledge and the technical limits of upscaling photos to sizes I never printed...

Hey Reader, The past few weeks have been a whirlwind. We’re still unpacking boxes in the new place, but I’ve managed to get my computer up and running on the desk in my office, so we’re functional. If you’ve sent me an email, know that a reply is coming—soon, I hope! Thanks so much for your patience. I also want to give a big thank you to everyone who participated in last month’s poll about newsletter content. Over 65% of you voted for the monthly variety pack, with Lightroom and Photoshop...

Happy Friday! The heat is on! July has been a whirlwind preparing to relocate with my family from Atlanta to Washington, DC. In between the packing chaos, I managed to squeeze in a few day trips to bid farewell to my favorite spots in Georgia. Now, we’re ready to hit the road and drive all my camera gear, computer, hard drives, and printer (no way could I trust those babies with the movers) to our new place this week. I’ve never moved a printer before, so keep your fingers crossed it survives...

Happy Nature Photography Day! Even though the first official day of summer is just around the corner, it feels like summer has been in full swing for weeks now. The temperatures are up, humidity is high, and the fireflies have been putting on a dazzling show in the dark. I've had a few magical nights walking the trails, surrounded by their shimmering light. It almost felt like I was walking through space among tiny stars. Now, I've traded in my magical glowworms for mosquitoes and an...

Hello Reader! I hope you are doing well. The past few months have been filled with travel, projects, and exciting adventures. My cup was so full that it started to spill over, hence the delay since my last newsletter. But I'm happy to report we're back on track! Here's a quick recap of the past few months. In March, we hosted the Out of Big Sur Photography Conference. Each conference is special in its own way, but this experience is one I'll still be talking about while reminiscing on a porch...

Hello Reader! January has been a whirlwind of creativity! I'm thrilled to share that I'm gearing up for two major conferences, coordinating Out of Big Sur in a couple of months, and, pinch me, teaching at Out of Chicago LIVE! 2024 again. It's an incredible honor to be in the company of such esteemed instructors. Unlike December, where my camera seemed to gather a bit of dust, January has been a conscious dive into projects and a snowy escapade in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Being...

Hey Reader, I trust you've found some moments of peace in this December hustle. As for me, I'm in search of that elusive tranquility amid juggling photography projects and attempting to play supermom for a magical season with a toddler. The midnight oil is burning, but in the realm of chaotic joy. In this edition, I'm excited to share the narrative behind one of my favorite 2023 images, 'Peak Companions.' It holds a special place as I reflect on the year. Additionally, learn how you can watch...
