Hey, it's Chrissy! ๐Ÿ‘‹

I'm not sure of the weather in your area, but the doors are closing on the spring season here. This past month, I spent some time in the Great Smoky Mountains being unplugged from the world with fog, cascades, and wildflowers! Even just a couple of days without the phone buzzing can serve as a wonderful reset, and it sure did for me.

Over the last two months, I spent lots of time getting to know the new printer I installed in the office. No, I haven't decided on a name for it yet. Until recently, I never had the office space to dedicate to a proper printing setup so everything was outsourced. Needless to say, I was excited to take this leap, and I have fallen in love with putting on those white gloves to hold my prints as they come off the printer. I'll document more of my journey in the coming months because there is a lot that goes into setting yourself up to print (more than I realized!).

While I'm collecting those thoughts, enjoy this month's article about why spring photography is so special and my tech tip showing the smartest way to import your photos into Lightroom. Last, I'm so excited to put all this printing to good use for my Among the Hills exhibit which opens in Pennsylvania next week. If you are in the area, please stop by!

Happy Photographing,
Chrissy

I have learned to love photographing during the spring season. It's one of the few times each year when I make sure I clear my schedule to get outside and this essay articulates my thinking as to why my attraction to spring photography grows with each passing year.

In this video, I share my three best practices to follow when importing your photos into Lightroom. We'll walk through importing your files as RAW or DNGs files, how to avoid importing duplicate photos, and I'll share what I consider to be the easiest and smartest method to import your photos into Lightroom.

Broadway, here I come! No literally, I'll be exhibiting work at Wild Elder Wine & Cinder Company which just happens to be located on Broadway Street in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, nestled in the foothills of the Pocono Mountains.

There will be an opening reception on Friday, May 5th, 2023 with a raffle for charity to win a free print. Prints in various sizes will be available throughout May, and ten percent of the exhibition proceeds will benefit the Carbon County Environmental Education Center. If you are in the area, come join me on the evening of May 5th for some food, wine, cider, and art!

1.) Michael Frye compiled a great summary on how to use Lightroom Classics's latest AI-powered Denoise tool.

2.) Albert Dros put together a great post-processing video on how to focus stack and edit his dreamy spring tulip photos.

3.) Alex Noriega released a new tutorial titled Simplify demonstrating his post-processing approach to creating simplicity in his work.

4.) Congratulations to Josh Cripps as the doors open to The Mt Whitney Gallery in Lone Pine this weekend filled with events all weekend. ๐Ÿ‘ If you can't be there, I'm sure there will be updates shared on his IG stories.

5.) Sarah Marino released an insightful video on her 5 Essential Lessons for Photographing Spring Trees.

6.) Nikon's asking "Are You Ready" for their next product release? If you are, you can mark your calendar for their online launch event on May 10th.

7.) Nickolas Warner talks about his adventure behind Photographing Trypophobia Arch. It hit home for me. As landscape photographers, once when we get a concept in our heads, sometimes we'll go to some crazy lengths.

8.) Tony Sweet shares his reflections and how to get started with creating The Surreal Landscape through Infrared Photography.

9.) Well, this is one that deserves the word "Ultimate" in the title. Matt Payne went undercover and pulled together The Ultimate Review of the Best Photography Print Labs.

Hey Reader, I hope all is well in your neck of the woods. This autumn season has carried me on a series of travel adventures through enchanting forest trails. Since my last newsletter, I've returned to explore the Canadian Rockies and their golden larches. I was lucky enough to wake up a few mornings with the landscape blanketed in fresh snow. Next, I journeyed over to Pennsylvania and spent some quality time with family while attempting to balance that time photographing this year's abundant...

Hey Reader! Have you managed to find some time to venture outdoors with your camera lately? Time feels like it's flying, and it's hard to believe we're already in July. Last month, I enjoyed camping with friends and photographing the lightning bugs (that's what I called them growing up) in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The experience was a nostalgic reminder of my childhood and watching the fireflies light up the landscape around our house. Being literally surrounded by swirls of...

Hey Reader, I hope you are enjoying the sunshine as we approach the first official day of summer. My exhibition ended yesterday, and I couldn't be happier with the feedback from people who were able to stop in and see the collection. It was my first time having a solo show. While it was a tremendous amount of work, there was a considerable amount of pride and personal fulfillment in seeing all the pieces displayed on the walls. If you haven't printed any of your photos in a while, I encourage...
