Photography Insights | June 2023

Hey Reader,

I hope you are enjoying the sunshine as we approach the first official day of summer. My exhibition ended yesterday, and I couldn't be happier with the feedback from people who were able to stop in and see the collection. It was my first time having a solo show. While it was a tremendous amount of work, there was a considerable amount of pride and personal fulfillment in seeing all the pieces displayed on the walls.

If you haven't printed any of your photos in a while, I encourage you to make a print or two. There is a unique joy in holding your photograph in your hands, and even more so seeing it displayed in a beautiful frame.

I'm so thankful to those who were able to join me in celebrating the collection, but I know that isn't possible for everyone. Therefore, I put together a small online version so everyone has an opportunity to view the collection and read a little about what these photographs from "home" mean to me. You'll find that information in this month's newsletter along with an article where I overanalyze (my specialty) an important aspect of what makes us photographers. Plus, I put together a video of best practices for working with Lightroom folders.

I hope you enjoy the material this month, and more importantly, I hope you find some time to get outside with your camera.

Happy Photographing,
Chrissy

“How long have you been a photographer?” It seems like such a simple question, yet I feel this fog descend upon me as I try to answer. At what point do we stop being a person with a camera taking snapshots and become a photographer creating images? Better yet, how do we grow into an artist?

In this video, I share 7 simple yet powerful tips on how to organize your Lightroom folders. We'll touch on some best practices when working with folders, how to find the best organizational method for your photography, and an easy and straightforward way to clean up and reorganize your Lightroom folders.

The collection retired from Broadway yesterday. I'm so thankful to those who were able to join me in celebrating the collection, but I know that isn't possible for everyone. Therefore, I put together a small online version so everyone has an opportunity to view the collection and read a little about what these photographs from "home" mean to me.

Hey Reader, I hope all is well in your neck of the woods. This autumn season has carried me on a series of travel adventures through enchanting forest trails. Since my last newsletter, I've returned to explore the Canadian Rockies and their golden larches. I was lucky enough to wake up a few mornings with the landscape blanketed in fresh snow. Next, I journeyed over to Pennsylvania and spent some quality time with family while attempting to balance that time photographing this year's abundant...

Hey Reader! Have you managed to find some time to venture outdoors with your camera lately? Time feels like it's flying, and it's hard to believe we're already in July. Last month, I enjoyed camping with friends and photographing the lightning bugs (that's what I called them growing up) in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The experience was a nostalgic reminder of my childhood and watching the fireflies light up the landscape around our house. Being literally surrounded by swirls of...

Hey, it's Chrissy! 👋 I'm not sure of the weather in your area, but the doors are closing on the spring season here. This past month, I spent some time in the Great Smoky Mountains being unplugged from the world with fog, cascades, and wildflowers! Even just a couple of days without the phone buzzing can serve as a wonderful reset, and it sure did for me. Over the last two months, I spent lots of time getting to know the new printer I installed in the office. No, I haven't decided on a name...
