Photography Insights | July 2023

Hey Reader!

Have you managed to find some time to venture outdoors with your camera lately? Time feels like it's flying, and it's hard to believe we're already in July. Last month, I enjoyed camping with friends and photographing the lightning bugs (that's what I called them growing up) in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The experience was a nostalgic reminder of my childhood and watching the fireflies light up the landscape around our house. Being literally surrounded by swirls of dancing fireflies in the dark served as a powerful reminder of the beauty life holds, especially if we keep that childlike wonder perspective.

In other news, Georgia's summer heat and humidity have been quite the challenge for me. I've been spending more time indoors, tackling a much-needed project of updating my website. While a website is never truly finished, I feel we're about 80% complete, and I'm excited to share it with you. As always, you'll find a delightful blend of my thoughts, Lightroom advice, and a collection of fascinating photography discoveries from the past month so let's dive into it.

Happy Photographing,
Chrissy

Get ready to embark on an illuminating journey into the world of firefly photography! I take you behind the scenes in this article. From preparing to be in the forest at night to selecting the best camera settings, I discuss my approach to capturing the mesmerizing light display in the woods.

In this video, I share the keywording secrets I think every Lightroom user should know to unlock the door for easier organization and surefire ways to efficiently keyword your photos.

Do you want to know a secret? I've never really loved my website. It always did the job, but it was a headache and not very fun. I'm not sure which straw broke the camel's back, but I nearly broke my back building my new site. Now, I have a few more grey hairs, but this digital refresh definitely feels more like me. I hope you enjoy the new experience.

Hey Reader, I hope all is well in your neck of the woods. This autumn season has carried me on a series of travel adventures through enchanting forest trails. Since my last newsletter, I've returned to explore the Canadian Rockies and their golden larches. I was lucky enough to wake up a few mornings with the landscape blanketed in fresh snow. Next, I journeyed over to Pennsylvania and spent some quality time with family while attempting to balance that time photographing this year's abundant...

Hey Reader, I hope you are enjoying the sunshine as we approach the first official day of summer. My exhibition ended yesterday, and I couldn't be happier with the feedback from people who were able to stop in and see the collection. It was my first time having a solo show. While it was a tremendous amount of work, there was a considerable amount of pride and personal fulfillment in seeing all the pieces displayed on the walls. If you haven't printed any of your photos in a while, I encourage...

Hey, it's Chrissy! 👋 I'm not sure of the weather in your area, but the doors are closing on the spring season here. This past month, I spent some time in the Great Smoky Mountains being unplugged from the world with fog, cascades, and wildflowers! Even just a couple of days without the phone buzzing can serve as a wonderful reset, and it sure did for me. Over the last two months, I spent lots of time getting to know the new printer I installed in the office. No, I haven't decided on a name...
