Photography Insights | October 2023

Hey Reader,

I hope all is well in your neck of the woods. This autumn season has carried me on a series of travel adventures through enchanting forest trails. Since my last newsletter, I've returned to explore the Canadian Rockies and their golden larches. I was lucky enough to wake up a few mornings with the landscape blanketed in fresh snow.

Next, I journeyed over to Pennsylvania and spent some quality time with family while attempting to balance that time photographing this year's abundant cascades of water weaving through the Pocono and Endless Mountains. The grand finale of my autumn adventures has been enjoying some great foggy conditions and dodging the multitude of tourists in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Amidst all these adventures, I've also been putting pen to paper to share something close to my heart. I hope you enjoy this month's article on helping shape our mindset to becoming more creative photographers.

Happy Photographing,
Chrissy

It's important to me to shape my mindset so I can be creative with my camera. In this month's article, I focus on a subtle linguistic tweak and how and when changing this single word could have a significant impact on your creative journey.

Last year, we rocked a fantastic giveaway featuring items from 2022's Best Gifts for Nature Photographers. Before I finalize this year's list, I want to hear from you! What's a favorite piece of gear, photography book, educational resource, or photography-related gem? Your insights will help me craft a stellar gift guide and giveaway for next month.

I have a variety of used Sony gear for sale. Sadly, it doesn't get much use so it's time to let it go. All gear is in very good condition, where it either shows little to no signs of wear or overall looks clean but may have minor signs of use/surface marks on the barrel of the lens. Every item will ship in the original box from the manufacturer. Please reply to this email with the item(s) of interest and a price offer.

Hey Reader! Have you managed to find some time to venture outdoors with your camera lately? Time feels like it's flying, and it's hard to believe we're already in July. Last month, I enjoyed camping with friends and photographing the lightning bugs (that's what I called them growing up) in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The experience was a nostalgic reminder of my childhood and watching the fireflies light up the landscape around our house. Being literally surrounded by swirls of...

Hey Reader, I hope you are enjoying the sunshine as we approach the first official day of summer. My exhibition ended yesterday, and I couldn't be happier with the feedback from people who were able to stop in and see the collection. It was my first time having a solo show. While it was a tremendous amount of work, there was a considerable amount of pride and personal fulfillment in seeing all the pieces displayed on the walls. If you haven't printed any of your photos in a while, I encourage...

Hey, it's Chrissy! 👋 I'm not sure of the weather in your area, but the doors are closing on the spring season here. This past month, I spent some time in the Great Smoky Mountains being unplugged from the world with fog, cascades, and wildflowers! Even just a couple of days without the phone buzzing can serve as a wonderful reset, and it sure did for me. Over the last two months, I spent lots of time getting to know the new printer I installed in the office. No, I haven't decided on a name...
